The prognosis about Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin has progressively gotten better, until the ultimate good news last Wednesday that he was being discharged from hospital nine days after those terrifying moments in Cincinnati when he had to be resuscitated after going into cardiac arrest.
At age 24, Hamlin hardly seemed to be a candidate to have his heart stop, but quick response by the Bills’ medical staff, trainers and others were critical in saving Hamlin’s life.
A medical emergency is no different than a bolt of lightning in that you never know where or when it’s going to strike. The Hamlin incident emphasized the importance of being prepared for such a moment.
Take a look around your place of employment in the golf industry. Is there a health and safety committee? Is there a defibrillator? Are staff members trained to use it, or perform CPR or other life-saving techniques?
Time is so important in a medical emergency, so is there a plan for getting an ambulance or other first responders on and off the property to get the person, employee or golfer, to the hospital as quickly as possible?
Do you believe your place of employment in the golf industry is adequately prepared for a medical emergency?
That’s the question in this week’s GNN Poll.
