Last week, the GNN Poll asked readers how the number of part time/seasonal staff members at the golf businesses where they work compares to 2020, the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The majority of respondents said the number of staff members was the same or more than last year, but we wonder how difficult it was to equal or go above that 2020 total for seasonal staff members.
This story by Nicole Williams of CBC News quotes restaurant owners in Ontario about the difficulty they faced in recruiting employees just as COVID-19 restrictions in that province were being eased.
It isn’t just restaurants. Various sectors have reported similar stories. including a few golf operations that have been in touch with GNN.
The reason for this, according to some, is that many workers are still receiving income from government programs and taking the summer off and some believe it’s simply the volatile, unpredictable nature of the pandemic.
Before looking for reasons, we want to see if golf operations faced difficulties in hiring seasonal staff this year.
That’s this week’s GNN Poll question.
