Back in July, the GNN Poll asked readers if the golf operations where they work were finding it more difficult to hire seasonal staff this year due to the labour shortage that was affecting many types of businesses in Canada.
As for golf, 74 per cent of respondents said the operations that employ them were indeed experiencing difficulty in hiring staff this year.
There have been several theories floated about the difficulty in hiring, one being that many workers prefer a switch to a work-from-home position, rather than physically being at the job in roles such as servers and bartenders or pro shop attendants.
According to some, many workers are still receiving income from government programs brought in during the COVID-19 pandemic and, as a result, there is no incentive to take a job.
Whatever the reason, do you expect the challenges in hiring this year to continue into next season?
That’s this week’s GNN Poll question.
