I like the name change to PGA of Canada although I must admit, at first, it caught me off-guard, but when I read the release. I said okay, I understand where they’re going with it and I like it.
I think it’s all about being recognizable to not only the members of the association, but others around the world, as well.
Being called the PGA of Canada brings us into focus with out peers. It made me very proud at the Centennial dinner a month or so ago to have CEOs from other PGAs around the world in attendance, which illustrates the respect that the PGA of Canada receives. We are one of the largest PGAs in the world.
The name change is the next step in aligning with the other associations as everyone bands together under the PGA brand. It’s like anything – a name change or logo change – it will take some getting used to just like it takes a period of time to adjust to saying Golf Canada instead of Royal Canadian Golf Association.
In the end, there is purpose as the PGA of Canada takes a bigger role on the global stage.
