With the 2019 PGA Merchandise Show behind us, the PGA of Canada will soon introduce its updated education program.
We’ve certainly done our due diligence. The National Golf Foundation in the United States has done a thorough survey of the golf industry and we’ve sought input from the National Golf Course Owners Association of Canada and its member clubs, as well as PGA of Canada members.
Specialization will be a key focus. When I started in the industry, you might have had three friends, one who might have wanted to be a general manager, another a head professional and another a teaching professional.
Yet, the education we received was pretty much identical even if our goals were different. While there are common topics we should all be familiar with, there are also different pathways depending on an individual’s personal goals.
Depending on their career aspirations, different pathways are required through education. If a person changes those aspirations, there needs to be other pathways available that can lead in the right direction.
We’ll have more specifics when the final announcement is made, but when that happens, the focus will be on individual choices and the different options and pathways available to help people achieve their goals.
