Cobra Golf has unveiled its limited edition KING MIM Wedge, inspired by the recognizable flowers that surround the distinct three-hole stretch at this week’s final major of the year.
While the annual rite of spring was delayed until November, the floral patterns on this wedge pay homage to what has traditionally been the year’s first major.
Building off the popularity of the brand’s first fully Metal-Injection-Molded (MIM) KING MIM Wedge line (in chrome and black finishes), the new wedge features a vintage copper PVD finish with paint-filled intricate laser etching that call to mind azaleas, white dogwoods and golden bells.
MIM manufacturing reduces the amount of post-process polishing to create a precise shape. Unlike traditional forging or casting processes, the wedges are formed from a 304 stainless steel powder and sintered at an extremely high temperature (1340 degrees), resulting in a tighter grain structure and a softer feel that rivals that of carbon steel forgings.
Inspired and validated by Rickie Fowler, the versatile grind is used for medium to firm turf conditions. Additional heel and toe relief provides versatility to play shots with an open or closed face, while the sole notch design keeps the leading edge close to the ground, without adding bounce.
A fully CNC milled face maximizes surface roughness and delivers precise lofts and groove shapes to enhance trajectory and spin performance.
A smart grip with an embedded sensor allows golfers to track their accuracy and short game improvements using the Arccos Caddie, app using their smart devices (iPhone, Android, Apple Watch).
To complete the design, the wedge features a KBS Hi-Rev 125 shaft with a custom designed green/yellow label and Lamkin Crossline Connect grip in a limited edition green and yellow colour scheme. The offering includes a 56-degree loft in right-hand only.
