The Canadian Golf and Country Club in Ashton, Ont., is in need of a golf course superintendent.
Responsibilities
Responsible for all aspects of grounds maintenance operations.
Management of all playing areas, including greens, tees, fairways, rough, sand traps, cart paths and surrounding areas of the property.
Supervise daily course set-up, including hole locations, tee marker placements, mowing operations, bunker maintenance, course fertilization, pesticide applications and irrigation operations.
Initiate plans for cultural practices, such as aeration, spiking, verti-cutting and top-dressing
Course administration
Financial management of the turf maintenance budget.
Accurate record keeping on inventory, weather data, maintenance procedures, cost accounting and material applications.
Accurate reporting to regulatory agencies as required under provincial and federal law of water taking and application of fertilizers and pesticides.
Accurate reporting of staff hours.
Management of grounds maintenance personnel. Ability to secure, train, schedule, supervise and communicate effectively with employees.
Responsible for hiring, training, supervising and disciplining all golf course maintenance staff.
Instruct equipment operators in the safe operation and care of all equipment.
Course equipment and inventory
Responsible for all the maintenance and repair of golf course equipment, providing direction to the course mechanic.
Responsible for maintaining required levels of equipment parts, fertilizer, pesticides and other items, as required for the smooth daily operation of the golf course.
Course Improvement projects.
Responsible for ongoing inspection of the golf course and providing solutions and recommendations to any problems.
Responsible for short term and long-term upgrade of irrigation system.
Responsible for planning and scheduling work programs and projects.
Supervise and participate in construction projects.
Qualifications
A diploma or degree in Turf Grass Management.
Minimum three years and preferred five years’ experience in Golf Course Management.
Valid Ontario Pesticide Licence (or other province equivalent).
IPM accreditation.
Excellent communication skills.
A strong team leader, mentor.
Financial management experience of turf maintenance department.
A sound, working knowledge of computers, Office products and online systems.
Experienced in hiring, training and motivating staff.
