Capilano Golf and Country Club in West Vancouver is seeking an assistant superintendent.
The assistant superintendent position is an integral part of the five person course and grounds leadership team and is an ideal position for someone looking to develop their leadership and management skills in preparation for becoming a golf course superintendent.
This leader will be responsible for aiding in overseeing the maintenance, operation and management of the golf course and associated grounds and facilities.
The successful candidate will also be responsible for many facets of staff management, excluding tenured technical staff within the department. In the absence of the course superintendent and senior assistant superintendent, that person is expected to make decisions and fill those responsibilities.
Capilano is open to play year round, with the majority of the 32,000 rounds/year played between April and October.
Capilano is committed to restoring and improving the golf course, as part of a Course Long Range Master Plan that has been in place for several years.
Following a full greenside bunker renovation in 2020 with the installation of the Better Billy Bunker liner, the club has plans to undertake further major renovation work over the next five years.
This work includes a new pro shop/first tee/putting green complex, the installation of a new irrigation system, completion of eight remaining green surrounds and continued tree removals as part of the club’s Tree Management Plan.
Working from a state of the art staff maintenance facility that was constructed in 2011 and a new fleet maintenance facility that was completed in early 2017, the high performance course and grounds team is comprised of up to 38 employees who love to work outdoors, enjoy being in the company of others, and take pride in their work.
An individual who has graduated with a degree or two year diploma from a recognized institution and turfgrass related field. Three years minimum working on a golf course is also required, along with a desire to secure a management role and eventually become a golf course superintendent.
Between $60K and $68K salary DOE, benefits and 3.5 per cent club match pension. This position also includes a mobile phone plan, food and clothing allowance and an allowance for moving expenses.
Association memberships for BCGSA, CGSA, GCSAA and select conferences as mutually arranged. Team appreciation includes monthly team events and golf.
