Capilano Requires Irrigation Technician

Capilano Golf and Country Club in West Vancouver is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated irrigation technician to help manage the golf course irrigation system and its gravity fed water source.

Reporting to the golf course superintendent and assistant superintendents, the successful applicant will be responsible for all required maintenance and performance monitoring of the irrigation system and will work with, learn from, and then succeed the senior irrigation technician.

Capilano is currently planning a phased Irrigation master plan to replace the majority of the irrigation system across the golf course in the near future. The irrigation technician will have a key role throughout the construction period in managing the transition of the irrigation systems. That person will also be an integral part of setting up and fine tuning the new system to the golf course requirements.

Main Responsibilities

The irrigation technician will work directly with the course and grounds leadership team and senior irrigation technician to organize, schedule and execute all irrigation repairs, adjustments and water management requirements of the golf course property.

Regularly monitor irrigation head performance to ensure sufficient coverage for all turf surfaces, making adjustments where applicable and maintaining a complete set of records of all changes made.

Perform monthly, annual and bi-annual maintenance on the golf courses six pressure reducing valves (PRVs) to maintain adequate pressure and water flow to all areas of the golf course.

Assist in monitoring the golf course to determine nightly watering requirements and scheduling of nightly irrigation via our Toro Lynx 7.0 central irrigation software.

Monitor and replenish irrigation replacement part inventory in consultation with the leadership team and senior irrigation technician.

Assist the management team in monitoring water usage and adhering to the clubs water use plan involving regular monitoring, measurement and maintenance of the club’s two man-made irrigation lakes.

Liaise and learn from the club’s irrigation consultant to apply industry best standards to all facets of the irrigation system maintenance.

Aid in the education, training and supervision of the course Intern(s) in areas related to irrigation.

Work directly with the environmental coordinator to maintain Audubon certification in aspects related to irrigation.

Be proactive in seeking out educational opportunities related to irrigation and apply that knowledge to daily tasks.

Attend regional golf seminars as well as other networking events.

Be available to participate in other golf course maintenance practices as required.

Act as an ambassador of the Course and Grounds Department both within the club and at professional events.

Qualifications

Post-secondary degree or two-year diploma in a related turf management field is preferred.

Previous experience with the Toro Lynx 7.0 central irrigation software and Toro Irrigation heads is an asset, but is not essential.

Compensation

$22-$26/hour and is flexible depending on experience. Extended health benefits are also included.

Additional Benefits

Association memberships for BCGSA, CGSA, and the Irrigation Association of B.C., and select conferences/additional training as mutually arranged. A mobile phone plan, golf privileges and discounts on golf apparel and food are also provided. Team appreciation includes monthly team events and staff golf tournament.

Schedule

Full time, year round position, 40 hours/week. Summer shifts are Monday to Friday 6 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.
