CGSA Names Equipment Technician Of The Year

January 30, 2020 By GNN

The CGSA/Foley Company Equipment Technician of the Year Award is presented annually to the technician whose nomination is judged to be the best example of an individual who exhibits professionalism, innovation and a team approach to make a significant contribution to a golf facility and the golf community.

As the winner of this award, he will receive an All-Access registration to the Canadian 2020 Golf Course Management Conference in Ottawa, March 1-5, four nights’ accommodation at the Westin Ottawa Hotel and transportation costs.

Allen has been a CGSA member since 2005 and was nominated by Jim Flett, AGS

“I’ve been fortunate to have Ron Allen as equipment technician for the past 16 years at Muskoka Lakes Golf and Country Club,” said Flett.

“Ron appreciates the need to implement cultural methods and practices that enhance the playability of the golf course,” he added.

“He has become extremely well informed in this area, attending continued education seminars and getting engaged with other equipment techs and industry reps across the country at CGSA conferences,” said Flett

“Ron’s giving goes beyond the greens into helping other departments at the club, ultimately providing superb playing conditions throughout the season in making Muskoka Lakes Golf and Country Club the well-conditioned course it is,” he said

“He keeps all this running smoothly without the aid of an assistant. Ron sees the big picture and recognizes the shortage of technicians coming into the workforce,” said Flett

All are qualities noticed by CGSA president Greg Austin

“I had the pleasure of phoning Ron to let him know he is being recognized as 2019’s top Canadian equipment technician. Ron is known for being selfless, passionate, enthusiastic and incredibly gracious and all of those characteristics came through during our short conversation together. Congratulations Ron, very well deserved,” said Austin

Greg Turner, Global Sales Leader, Foley Company, LLC, says Allen is the epitome of what the award stands for in his opinion

“Foley Company is pleased to hear that Ron Allen has been announced as this year’s CGSA/Foley Company Equipment Technician of the Year,” said Turner

Foley’s proud to recognize people like Ron and all he represents in his profession and it’s a testament from his peers in our industry. From what we’ve learned he has been someone not only dedicated to maintaining high quality standards when it comes to equipment, but he encourages those around him and goes out of his way to help anyone asking with zero expectations of anything in return,” he said

“Well done Ron, congratulations from the Foley Company,” said Turner
