The Crowsnest Pass Golf Club in Blairmore, Alta,, is seeking an assistant superintendent.
The successful candidate will act as the department leader in the absence of the superintendent and will devote full effort and working time to produce the best possible playing conditions with the equipment, budget and direction provided by the board of directors.
The assistant superintendent reports directly to the superintendent. This individual will work closely with the superintendent to create a positive, safe, and professional work environment.
The assistant superintendent will have an understanding of all aspects of maintenance operations and will aid in organizing, training, delegating and supervising the maintenance team. Direction is provided to the maintenance department by the greens committee (appointed by the board).
All staff working on the course or grounds report directly to the golf course superintendent and assistant superintendent. This individual is on call for any extraordinary circumstances, except on scheduled days off and /or vacation days.
Coordinating and directly involved in golf course setup for play, considering Golf Canada rules.
Coordinating the maintenance and repair of equipment with the superintendent and equipment technician.
Aid in coordinating projects on golf course property.
Rendering professional advice, opinions, assistance to the superintendent and maintenance team.
Regularly scouting turf for pests and reporting any problems.
Maintaining a valid pesticide applicator’s licence and coordinating with the superintendent to perform pesticide and fertility spray applications according to maintenance and fertility plans and scouting reports, while keeping detailed records of applications.
Meeting regularly with the superintendent to discuss plans, projects, finances, priorities and strategies.
Synchronizing maintenance and project work with other departments and meeting regularly to ensure minimal impact to scheduled events.
The assistant superintendent is entrusted with a set of keys and will be responsible for the security of all maintenance operation buildings and CNPGCC property. The assistant and superintendent assume responsibility for managing and maintaining golf course properties including:
Greens, tees, bunkers, fairways and rough.
Practice areas and facilities.
Maintenance yard and buildings.
Fleet of maintenance equipment.
All paths and roads.
Irrigation system, pumping stations and drainage systems.
Woody and herbaceous plantings.
Buildings maintenance for structures including concession, shelter, pump stations.
The assistant superintendent will inspect the golf course and related areas to evaluate how well the management standards are being achieved and introduce changes in course management programs to achieve desired standards based on his/her professional interpretation.
The assistant superintendent cooperates with other departments and staff at the club to ensure the best possible services and playing conditions to the members and guests of the club.
Under direction of the superintendent, the assistant may be responsible for supervising small course improvement projects by maintenance staff or outside contractors on CNPGCC property.
The assistant superintendent trains, directs, supervises and evaluates a staff of employees for the purpose of maintaining club properties. The assistant shall ensure course staff members adhere to all policies and procedures developed for their respective areas.
The assistant superintendent keeps abreast of advances and expands education in the profession of golf course management by representing the club at association meetings, seminars, short courses and conferences as the budget allows.
The assistant superintendent endeavours to play golf weekly and has full understanding of the game and rules of golf.
Three to five years experience in turf management.
Strong communication skills.
Understanding of, fertility, irrigation, disease management, cultural practices and crew management.
$22-$25 per hour with overtime.
5/2 work schedule, consecutive days off.
