Fairmont Jasper Park Seeks Grounds Mechanic

The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge in Jasper, Alta., is seeking a grounds mechanic.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the golf course superintendent/grounds manager and/or the assistant golf course superintendent, responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Consistently offer professional, engaging and friendly service.

Implement and oversee a comprehensive preventive maintenance program, including all preventative maintenance and repair work.

Create and maintain records for equipment and parts inventory purchases, equipment conditions, costs of repairs and preventive maintenance for all equipment.

Inspect, diagnose and repair mechanical defects/failures in grounds maintenance equipment, including, diesel, electric and gasoline powered automobiles, trucks, trenchers, sweepers, rollers, mowers and other mechanical equipment used in utility work.

Instruct and/or train golf course maintenance colleagues regarding preventive maintenance and the proper cleaning and safe operation of equipment.

Prioritize equipment repair and maintenance work.

Spot check equipment for performance on the course, make emergency repairs to equipment on the course and service or supervise servicing of equipment prior to use.

Communicate all problems relating to the maintenance or repair of equipment to the superintendent and/or the assistant superintendent and work closely with the automotive mechanic shop on property.

Oversee the shop area maintenance.

Qualifications

Two years’ experience in a similar role required.

Extensive experience working on small engine equipment and golf course equipment in particular.

Toro certification an asset.

Certified small engine mechanic and/or journeyman automotive mechanic certification is an asset.

Valid driver’s licence required with five-year abstract.

CPR and First Aid certificates are assets.

Working knowledge of light and heavy maintenance equipment and automotive apparatuses.

Skilled in the use of a variety of equipment repair tools and the making of various types of mechanical repair

Understanding relief and spin grinding of reel type mowers.

Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the profession.

Ability to move heavy objects.

Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions, while repairing equipment.

Ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical and hydraulic troubles and determine appropriate maintenance work.

Ability to communicate effectively and keep business records.

Knowledge of and/or ability to play the game of golf and understand how job performance affects the playing conditions of the golf course.

Must be in good physical condition.

Ability to work weekends and holidays if required.

Physical Aspects of Position (include but are not limited to):

Constant standing and walking throughout shift.

Lifting, bending and pushing throughout shift.

Strength and agility to work and operate equipment safely so as not to harm others or the environment.

Physically able to lift 50 lbs.
