The Glen Arbour Golf Course in Hammonds Plains, N.S.. just west of Halifax, is seeking an associate golf superintendent, who will be responsible in consultation with the general manager for developing of a dedicated team and programming to assist in maintaining a superior standard.
Reporting through the leadership team, the successful candidate will become the expert in the areas of turf grass management and assist with human resources, and financial management as it applies to the turf maintenance department.
Overtime, the associate superintendent must develop an understanding of the course’s core values, as well as strong understanding of the EOS philosophy and how it applies to the branding of the course.
Responsibilities
Assist with the preparation of an annual budget for the maintenance and capital improvement of the golf course.
Plan and coordinate all maintenance and project work on the golf course to ensure a high standard.
Train and oversee scheduling of turf maintenance staff.
Manage purchases of maintenance equipment and supplies.
Maintain all required records including but not limited to course labour, product applications, water usage and lake levels.
Supervise the maintenance and repairing of golf course equipment.
Sit on the leadership team of the golf club.
Become knowledgeable in EOS and implement the system in the maintenance department.
Respond to internal and external customer inquiries.
Prepare articles as required for the member newsletter.
Participate in long-term planning meetings.
Responsible for winter maintenance of golf course.
Offer professional opinions in turf maintenance, as requested by the leadership team or ownership,
Perform other duties as requested by the leadership team or ownership.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
A degree in turf management or a diploma combined with equivalent experience.
A minimum of five years of golf course maintenance experience.
Knowledge and experience of complete golf course operations.
Extensive knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in golf course grounds maintenance.
Experience with Toro irrigation an asset.
Advanced knowledge of agronomy and turf grass management.
Ability to work independently.
Proven leadership and human resource skills.
Working knowledge of golf facilities, construction principles and methods.
Demonstrate a proficiency in Office 365 and word processing.
A strong working knowledge of irrigation operation and water management.
Excellent communication skills.
Good financial management skills.
A thorough understanding of the game of golf.
Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and Operational Health and Safety (OHS) practices.
First Aid and(CPR) certification.
Valid Pesticide Applicator Licence.
Valid driver’s licence.
