Kananaskis Country Seeks Assistant Superintendent

Kananaskis Country Golf Course is seeking an ambitious, highly motivated, career oriented assistant superintendent

Reporting to the golf course superintendent and senior assistant superintendent, the assistant superintendent will be responsible for assisting in the training, mentoring, daily planning, and supervision of the turf care team. This person will also help plan and implement all other facets of the turfgrass maintenance program.

Qualifications

Previous experience in golf course/turfgrass management.

A diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary turfgrass management program.

Must be an excellent team leader with good organizational and communication skills.

Able to balance supervision while setting the proper example of work ethic with the staff.

Ability to mentor, train and motivate a team of 30-40 individuals

An understanding of agronomic practices and how they relate to the game of golf.

The willingness to adapt to new methods, procedures and standards.

Experience with irrigation system and pump house operations, ability to repair and trouble shoot irrigation.

Must have a valid Alberta pesticide applicator’s certificate or willingness to acquire one within six months.

Currently hold a valid driving licence.

Updated drivers abstract.

Previous experience with scheduling personnel would be an asset.

Responsibilities

Reports daily to golf course superintendent and senior assistant superintendent on course activities and observations.

Daily staff supervision, scheduling of assignments in conjunction with senior assistant superintendent.

Ensure crew assignments are completed in a timely and efficient manner.

Staff training, mentorship, and supervision.

Wildlife and golfer interaction management.

Maintain accurate daily journal, nutrient management and IPM records.

Implement nutrient application programs in safe, efficient manner.

Assist equipment manager with machinery setup.

Assist and communicate with all other golf course departments.

Subsidized on-property staff housing is available for the selected candidate.

Compensation package will depend on the qualified candidate’s level of experience.

This position is available to start January 2023. Interviews will be conducted upon receipt of appropriate application. The position will be filled when acceptable candidate is found.
