Lambton Golf and Country Club in Toronto, currently in the process of replacing all bunkers with the Better Billy Bunker system, is seeking a golf course superintendent.
The golf course superintendent, reporting to the general manager/Chief Operating Officer, is responsible for and entrusted with the successful operation and management of the golf course maintenance department.
Providing oversight and management of the entire 171 acres of ground.
As a member of Lambton’s management team, working collaboratively with peers to raise the membership experience.
Providing agronomic direction to consistently deliver an exceptional experience at all times by following best practices for the healthy growth of the golf course grasses, trees and other applicable plant materials.
Developing and implementing programs for turf/grass, material and chemical maintenance and asset management.
Overseeing the clubhouse grounds maintenance including parking lots, winter snow removal and outdoor winter activities.
Establishing a good working relationships with regulatory bodies, TRCA, MOE, Urban Forestry, etc.
Preparing an annual budget and long-term forecast for achieving financial goals through proper forecasting, expense controls and labour management.
Motivating and developing staff.
Attending all green committee meetings and other committee meetings as may be relevant.
Communicating with members and keeping them informed about current and future maintenance activities.
Developing and implementing annual and long-term plans for the maintenance of the golf courses.
Amotivated, knowledgeable team player with strong communication, people and organizational skills.
Advanced knowledge of agronomy and turfgrass management, including a college or university diploma or degree in Turf Management, ideally a Master Superintendent Designation, IPM Certified and valid pesticide licence(s). Canadian Golf Superintendents Association professional certification as either Accredited Golf Course Superintendent (AGS) or Master Superintendent (MS) is considered an asset.
A minimum of five years of experience working in a management role at a golf property with some private club experience.
Knowledge of current local, provincial and federal laws and regulations affecting golf course operations.
History of providing a safe working environment, with an emphasis on meeting all regulatory requirements.
Working knowledge of golf facilities construction/redesign/upgrades principles and methods.
Knowledge of irrigation and drainage systems and water requirements.
Experience using systematic approaches to data collection and analysis.
Experience in a work culture that emphasizes personal responsibility, accountability and attention to detail.
A demonstrated team player who can foster relationships with members, guests, management peers and staff members.
Ability to craft presentations and deliver to the board/members, committees and staff.
Thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf.
A record of success with regulatory bodies such as TRCA, MOE, Urban Forestry, etc.
Ability to mentor course staff.
Financial management experience of the operational and capital golf course budgets.
A history of delivering high-quality golf course conditions and providing outstanding service to the membership.
