Marine Drives Requires An Equipment Manager

December 3, 2019 By Ian Hutchinson

M

Marine Drive Golf Club in Vancouver is seeking an equipment manager.

Working alongside golf course superintendent Jamie Robb, associate uperintendent Dain Mikulic and the rest of the management team, the equipment manager will help lead the Links department, interacting with all staff members and directly overseeing one equipment technician.

This leader will be responsible for heading up the repair and maintenance of a mixed fleet of golf course equipment, including mowers, construction equipment, tractors, utility vehicles, rental equipment, golf carts and other miscellaneous pieces.

The person in this position will be responsible for developing relationships departmentally, inter-departmentally and with suppliers, contractors and consultants.

Aiding in the procurement of equipment through developing relationships will be a key component of this role, as will monitoring, stocking and tracking parts levels within a defined budget.

Documenting and presenting equipment training and safety-related matters to a group of 20 to 30 employees is an essential requirement of the position. Travelling once or twice a year to attend networking and training courses throughout North America is an important component to staying up to date trends in the Industry.

The ideal candidate has a post-secondary education from a recognized university or college in an equipment-related field and has professional certifications aligning with responsibilities. Business skills should be in line with responsibilities expected from someone in a management position.

Working with prominent American golf course Designer Jim Urbina, the club is working on a master plan that would see all 18 tee complexes rebuilt, modern irrigation and drainage installed, select greens expanded, all new satellites purchased, Better Billy Bunkers installed and cart paths removed.

A new fleet of equipment is being proposed for purchase, the driving range rebuilt and the Links facility upgraded. The club’s centennial year is fast approaching and the race is on to bring Marine Drive back to being the best conditioned course in the Pacific Northwest.
