Mayfair Lakes Golf and Country Club in Richmond, B.C., is in need of a golf course superindent to ensure the proficient operation of the grounds department and all related golf course maintenance activities, including a hands-on focus with the team.
The successful candidate will be able to recognize the importance of contributing to a cohesive team environment, being an effective communicator, being efficient and organized, being a constant learner, supporting other members of the team, providing service excellence to members and guests at every moment, and inspiring and coaching the entire grounds team in accordance to the GolfBC core values.
Duties and Responsibilities
Golf Course Maintenance and Upgrades
Oversee the aesthetic appearance and maintenance of the golf course property in a progressive well-balanced manner.
Render professional advice, opinions and assistance as required.
Develop, oversee and maintain drainage and irrigation systems.
Assist and oversee the maintenance and repair of all equipment pertaining to golf course maintenance, including accurate equipment logs.
Select and prepare proper fertilizers and nutrients for all plant types.
Supervise all planting, fertilizing and care of turf, plants, shrubs, trees and other landscapes on the golf course.
Keep accurate and complete records on payroll/personnel, inventory, weather data, maintenance procedures, pesticide applications, fertilizer, etc.
Provide key updates to the general manager and head golf professional.
Purchase and receive goods and services according to company policy, in proper budgeted months.
Continue to develop the detailed hole-by-hole golf course master plan and complete projects prioritized annually either internally, or coordinate with outside contractors.
Prepare and manage the operating budget and update the five-year capital plan annually.
Communicate and liaise with the GolfBC director of grounds maintenance as required.
Team Member Development
Responsible for recruitment, coaching and overseeing of the maintenance team.
Responsible for payroll and all accompanying HR documentation and reports.
Schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of team members and equipment, while ensuring maintenance standards are met and exceeded.
Provide regular communication and feedback to the grounds maintenance team, including formal performance evaluations annually.
Respond appropriately to any issues and participate in enforcing any remedial actions necessary to rectify the situation.
Ensure timely and ongoing training of direct reports.
Develop the team/culture in accordance to the GolfBC core values
Adhere to the safety policies in place for team members, as well as members and guests
Guest Experience

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Technical Skills and Knowledge
Solid understanding of the golf course environment and industry.
Post-secondary education in Turfgrass Management.
Extensive experience in turf maintenance.
Thorough knowledge of construction and maintenance of greens, tees, fairways and bunkers.
Experience with irrigation systems and water management.
Current certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator,
Abilities
High degree of administrative and executive ability, especially in terms of problem solving and decision making.
Highly organized with exceptional leadership and communication skills.
Superb attention to detail.
Strong public relations and team member development ability.
Must be able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and be able to maintain organization with a positive attitude.
