Mickelson National Golf Club just west of Calgary is seeking an experienced golf course maintenance superintendent with a successful track record of achieving exceptional course conditions and the ability to maintain and optimize budget constraints.
The successful candidate will be required to collaborate with stakeholders in constructing a long-term plan for the club that encompasses its vision, the ability to execute the plan with an exceptional attention to detail to ensure course conditions are world class and have a hands-on work ethic to lead the team.
The golf course maintenance superintendent will report to a vice president, the ownership group and other stakeholders, as needed or required.
Its expected that the golf course maintenance superintendent will be actively engaged on the golf course during the golf season; monitoring course activities, proactively identifying and addressing issues before they arise, resolving deficiencies and/or completing improvements, as needed.
A minimum of five years of experience as a golf course maintenance superintendent or 10 years as a golf course maintenance assistant superintendent in good standing with the CGSA.
A graduate of a recognized turf grass program, current and well versed in all aspects of turf grass management.
Knowledge of golf and a player in the game.
Hands-on experience with course construction and renovations.
Grow-in experience would be a benefit as the course opened in June 2020, and there are areas that need turf to be better established.
Valid pesticide and applicator’s licence.
Strong background and experience in irrigation systems; course hardware and software operation systems.
Knowledgeable in computerized irrigation system, repairs and maintenance.
Proven ability to recruit, train, lead and manage staff, ultimately creating a highly productive and results driven team.
Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills – written and verbal.
Excellent computer skills.
Possess the necessary financial management skills for operational and capital budgets, including equipment replacement plans.
Responsibilities and Duties
Short, mid, and long-range goals and plan creation.
Creating, maintaining and reporting of budget to various stakeholders.
Negotiate, coordinate and supervise course improvement projects.
Develop, execute, improve, and steward maintenance, safety and training standards and practices, including sustainability initiatives and chemical application requirements.
Supply chain duties such as planning, procurement, inventory control and management.
Create, train, manage and maintain an effective operations team.
Manage and work alongside team to achieve exceptional course results.
