Former Golf Ontario executive director and Ontario Golf Hall of Fame member Dave Mills has died at the age of 74.
Mills was involved with what was the Ontario Golf Association/Golf Association of Ontario since 1986. He served on the board of directors from 1989-1997, before being appointed executive director in 1997.
Mills led several initiatives during his time as executive director including the GAO Scholarship Program, educational seminars, Golf in Schools, learn to play clinics, new provincial championships, Team Ontario, and participation in Canadian and Ontario Summer Games.
He led the process to establish the Ontario Golf Hall of Fame and helped to have golf recognized as an official sport by Sport Canada.
He also led the process to amalgamate the Ontario Golf Association with what was the Ontario Ladies Golf Association.
Mills was also a certified rules official and volunteered his expertise at numerous events and at the Canadian Open, Canadian Amateur and Telus Skins Game. He retired from the association in 2014, but continued to volunteer at provincial events.
