The Canadian Golf Superintendents Association (CGSA) and the Toro Company have announced that Paul Davey, assistant superintendent at the Cordova Bay Golf Course in Victoria, B.C. is the CGSA/Toro Assistant Superintendent of the Year Award winner for 2021.
The CGSA/Toro Assistant Superintendent of the Year award recognizes the specific achievements of a golf course assistant superintendent whose performance and contributions to the success of the facility go beyond those that would normally be expected.
The award is presented to an individual who has contributed to his or her golf facility in a significant way and who has demonstrated professionalism, leadership, innovation and a team approach.
Davey has been a CGSA member since 2005 and has worked for Cordova Bay since February of 2005.
He graduated from Olds College in 2003 with a GPA of 3.89 and made it to the Dean’s Honour Roll. Prior to Cordova Bay, he worked at Avondale Golf Course in Prince Edward Island and Kananaskis Country Club in Alberta.
Dean Piller, AGS, superintendent at Cordova Bay, nominated Davey for the award.
“The value he brings to our organization is immeasurable as his contribution to our success goes far beyond his day-to-day activities. He is the calming force that keeps the atmosphere in our workplace focused, calm and productive,” said Piller.

We are thrilled that Toro is a large supporter of the CGSA and continues to sponsor our Assistant Superintendent of the Year Award,” said Scott.
As the CGSA/Toro Assistant Superintendent of the Year winner, Davey will receive an all-access” registration to the Canadian 2022 Virtual Golf Course Management Conference, in partnership with the OGSA, from March 1-3 and a Toro gift pack valued at $500.
He will also receive an invitation to attend the Toro Experience for Assistant Superintendents, an exclusive event hosted at the Toro company headquarters in Bloomington Minn., including round-trip airfare and accommodations during the event.
Davey will be presented with the CGSA/Toro Assistant Superintendent of the Year Award during the awards ceremony on Tuesday, March 1, at 3:30 pm EST as part of the Canadian Golf Course Management Virtual Conference.
