Don Price! My fond memories of Don begin on the first day of summer holidays 1971. I’m 13 and find myself in a new city with no friends. My new stepfather drops my brothers and I off at the Red Deer Golf & Country Club where we meet the head pro Don Price. Junior membership was $50. My younger brother and I started playing 54 holes a day, weekdays (couldn’t tee off until 3pm weekends)! On the weekends, we would head out early to the practice fairway and meet most of the rest of the crop of juniors all waiting for 3pm so that we could get our game in. That group of young players would play versions of Par 27, bunker games, tough lies, all sorts of competitions until Don would come out to the range. At that point, we would all line up and hit balls. Don would walk up and down the range observing us and making small adjustments to our swing/grip/setup, all with a gentle manner and sense of humour. We all benefitted greatly from his tutelage and I credit Mr. Price with solidifying my love and passion for this great game! The list of young men who learned from Don is extensive, maybe you know some of them: Mike Hogan, Jim Boomer, Blaine Gowing, Tom and Marty Skinner, Don, Bob and Bill Haldane, Bob Cooper, Tom Alford, Bill Titeley, Bob McArthur, my younger brother Paul and me.
What a life I’ve had in golf! Thanks Don!!

I got to know Don after he had retired from the industry as a member of the Creston Golf Club.
He is very humble, knowledgeable and a grade A person. And I couldn’t think of anyone more deserving.
