Superintendent Required At Smithers Golf And Country Club

The Smithers Golf and Country Club in Smithers, B.C., is seeking a greens and grounds superintendent.

Reporting directly to the greens and grounds chairman, the successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance and grounds improvements of the golf course and surrounding property.

The greens and grounds superintendent will also be instrumental in the completion of several capital facility upgrades in the next few years.

Qualifications

Preference will be given to those with a degree or diploma in Turf Grass Management or associate degree from a recognized college or university. Applicants with less than a degree or diploma in Turf Grass Management or associate degree will be considered

Minimum of three years experience as a greens and grounds superintendent or assistant superintendent.

A thorough understanding of all aspects of golf course maintenance and management, including turf management and agronomy, administration, purchasing, budget preparation and execution, facility capital planning, human resources, onsite troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of Toro equipment.

Hold a current pesticide licence.

Thorough knowledge of irrigation systems, associated software and troubleshooting.

Hold a valid B.C. driver’s licence or willingness to obtain.

AED, CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.

Leadership Qualities

Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, supporting open communication with the leadership team, greens and grounds team and golf operations.

Ability to work closely with other departments and contribute/participate in regular meetings when required.

Coordinate and schedule day-to-day operations with the director of golf operations.

Perform personnel and administrative duties such as hiring staff, training staff and performing staff reviews.

Implement and monitor a safety program as per SGCC and WorkSafe BC regulations.

This is a salaried management position, with a negotiable 10 or 12-month term. Compensation is $60-74k, based on experience. The position also comes with medical and dentals benefits packages.
