Windermere Golf and Country Club Seeks Superintendent

Windermere Golf and Country Club in Edmonton is searching for its next golf course superintendent.

Candidates should have exceptional agronomic and leadership skills, a passion for the game of golf and a history of providing premier golf course conditions.

The golf course superintendent reports directly to the general manager and is expected to lead his/her department to ensure premium golf course conditioning daily. The superintendent is responsible for all day-to-day operations of Windermere’s golf course.

The superintendent must be an excellent direct communicator and have a natural style of “sincere engagement” with members and Windermere staff members.

He/she will possess a passion for the game of golf, premier playing conditions and have strong agronomic knowledge. Continuing education, professional development, future turf leader development, strong peer group relations and staying at the forefront of research and technology are necessary for success.

Qualifications

Experience in the role of superintendent or senior assistant superintendent at a golf course known for delivering premium golf course conditions is required.

A keen observer with the ability to see and understand the big picture.

Strong agronomic skills that continue to evolve with advances in turf technology and equipment.

Relationship builder with a history of strong relations with key stakeholders.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to organize your team and delegate necessary roles and responsibilities.

Budget management skills and forecasting (zero-based budgeting).

Strong character, confident, humble personality.

A collaborative leader that looks to proactivity build his/her team.

The ability to develop and grow a positive employee work culture.

Responsibilities

Deliver premium golf course conditioning.

Ensure best practices are in place for safety, equipment training and record keeping.

Responsible for all golf course equipment and required maintenance and upkeep.

Preparing capital plans for replacement and addition of necessary equipment.

Preparing an annual department budget in line with plans and expectation for conditions.

Maintaining a plan of mow heights and golf course planning for continuity in conditions.

Active participation in Golf Course Integrity Committee meetings.
Work directly with senior management team (controller, head professional, director F&B).

Compensation

The Windermere Golf and Country Club will offer an attractive compensation package, commensurate with experience. The package includes base salary, bonus incentives, vehicle allowance, medical and dental benefits (including health spending account), RRSP matching, paid vacation, meals, professional development allowance, professional dues, cell phone allowance, uniform allowance and golf privileges.
