Tour Roundup: Ames One Off The Lead At Champions Event

Stephen Ames

Stephen Ames opened the Ally Challenge in Grand Blanc, Mich., with a bogey-free, six-under 66 that has him tied for second after the first round of the PGA Tour Champions event.

Ames is just one shot off Fred Funk’s lead.

Alan McLean is tied for sixth after he shot a 68 in Thursday’s first round. Mike Weir opened with a 70 and is tied for 34th.

PGA Tour

After opening the Tour Championship with a four-over 74, Corey Conners put his game in the right direction on Friday, when he fired four-under 66 in a round that saw him birdie his final three holes of the day.

Going into the weekend, Conners is 26th in the 30-man field.
