Brooke Henderson was full throttle during moving day at the ShopRite LPGA Classic in Galloway, N.J.
Henderson had just one bogey on the day in recording a six under 65 that has her in seventh place. Henderson is 10 under through the first three rounds and five off the lead.
“Being moving day I wanted to make a lot of birdies and try to climb up the leaderboard as much as possible, so it was nice to get off to a pretty fast start, I think five birdies in my first nine holes,” said Henderson, who made the turn at four under.
“The first two days I didn’t really score as well as I felt like I was actually hitting it. I didn’t make as many putts,” she said.
“(Saturday) I kind of made some putts that I wasn’t expecting to make, so it was a little bit of a bonus. Evens out, but hopefully I can continue to make all those putts that I made (Saturday),” said Henderson, adding there was less wind and the morning start offered softer conditions.
The ShopRite is the only tournament between majors for Henderson, who withdrew from the recent Cambia Portland Classic due to air quality issues caused by wildfires in the Pacific Northwest. She tied for second at the last major, the ANA Inspiration.
“Next week being a major is really exciting and you definitely want your game to be in a good spot heading into next Thursday. I feel like preparing for that in the back of my mind, but also trying to post some good scores here and climb up the leaderboard,” she said.
Alena Sharp finished the third round with an even par 71 and goes into Sunday’s finale tied for 34th at four under.
