American amateur Zach Taylor, playing in the final group of the day, turned in a final round, five under 67 to join three others atop the leaderboard after the first round of a Mackenzie Tour–PGA Tour Canada qualifying tournament on Tuesday.
Taylor joins Luis Gagne of Costa Rica, Isidro Benítez of Mexico and fellow American Cristian DiMarco, who hold a one shot lead going into Wednesday’s second round near Tampa.
Robert Wilkinson of Dundas, Ont., shot a 69 on Tuesday and is tied for sixth.
The player finishing this event atop the leaderboard receives exempt membership for the entire 2021 season, while second through sixth finishers will be exempt through a mid-season reshuffle. Those finishing seventh through 25th plus ties will receive conditional membership.
