Corey Conners began the Open Championship on Thursday in St Andrews, Scotland, with a one-under 71 that has him tied for 35th, seven shots behind leader Cameron Young, who holds a two-shot edge over two-time RBC Canadian Open champ Rory McIlroy.
Mackenzie Hughes is tied for 77th after he opened with a 73 on Thursday.
Tiger Woods shot a first round 78 and is tied for 146th.
