The last man into the Masters will not be among the first men out as Corey Conners, the late addition to the field after his win at last week’s Valero Texas Open, has made the cut in his second appearance at Augusta National.
Conners, who missed the cut at the 2015 Masters, shot a one-under 71 in Friday’s second round and goes into the weekend in a tie for 16th. Conners is at three under at the midway point, four shots off the lead, which is where he began the day.
Francesco Molinari, Jason Day, Brooks Koepka, Adam Scott and Louis Oosthuizen share the lead at seven under, with Dustin Johnson, Justin Harding, Xander Schauffele and Tiger Woods just one shot back.
After two birdies and two bogeys, Conners made the turn at even par and went to one over with another bogey on the 11th hole, before striking for birdies on three of the next four holes. As he did in Thursday’s opening round, Conners bogeyed 18.
Mike Weir, the 2003 Masters champion, missed the cut after finishing Friday’s round with a 76. He was four over after the first two rounds.
