Home Town Lad Gets His Open Shot

Eugene Wong of Vancouver has been granted an exemption into next month’s RBC Canadian Open at Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club.

The 20-year old Vancouver native and University of Oregon junior is a former B.C. amateur and junior champion and runner-up at the Canadian Amateur.

In 2010, he won the Jack Nicklaus Award, which earned him an exemption into the recent Memorial tournament on the PGA Tour.

Wong joins fellow Team Canada member Albin Choi of Toronto in the field for the Open. Choi, a sophomore at North Carolina State, earned his exemption last summer by winning the 2010 Canadian Amateur..
