Industry Notes: Marquee Names Test Positive For COVID-19 Before Olympics And More

World No. 1 Jon Rahm has tested positive once again for COVID-19 and will be unable to represent Spain at this week’s men’s golf event at the Olympics. Bryson DeChambeau has also tested positive. Patrick Reed will replace him on the American team at the Olympics … The The PGA Tour has a break in its schedule for the Olympics, where Corey Conners and Mackenzie Hughes will represent Canada. The tour schedule resumes wth the Barracuda Championship in Truckee, Calif. and the WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational in Memphis. Both events will be played Aug. 5-8 … The Korn Ferry Tour is also off until Aug. 5-8 when the Utah Championship will be played in Farmington, Ut. … PGA Tour Champions will tee it up next in Calgary Aug. 13-15 when the Shaw Charity Classic takes place at Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club … The LPGA Tour has the inaugural Handa World Invitational this week in Northern Ireland, but no Canadians are in the field … The Symetra Tour is off until Aug. 6-8 when the FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship will be played … Last week’s GNN Poll asked readers if the golf operations where they work found it more difficult hiring seasonal staff this year due to a labour shortage or fewer people applying. The majority, or 76 per cent of respondents, said yes, with 24 per cent voting no … This week’s poll asks readers how they would describe their interest level in Olympic golf, compared to a major championship. At last glance, 87 per cent of respondents said less interested, seven per cent said their interest level was the same as for a major and six per cent said they were more interested.
