Industry Notes: Municipal Politicians Ask Premier To Reconsider, Sharp In Singapore And More

April 27, 2021 By GNN

One of Toronto’s Deputy Mayors is asking Premier Doug Ford to reconsider his decision to order the closure of golf courses and tennis courts in Ontario (see above). Stephen Holyday joins Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie, who made a similar request last week … Alena Sharp, the lone Canadian in the field, will tee off with Moriya Jutanugarn and Shanshan Feng on the 10th tee at 7:42 a.m. local time on Thursday at the HSBC Women’s World Championship in Singapore. All tee times are here … Maddie Szeryk, Brittany Marchand, Rebecca Lee-Bentham, Samantha Richdale, Josee Doyon, Valerie Tanguay and Selena Costabile will play the Symetra Tour’s Garden City Classic at Buffalo Dunes in Kansas this week, an event won by Anne-Catherine Tanguay of Quebec City in 2017 … With the potential for provincial restrictions in travel and sport to overlap with the planned opening of the 2021 PGA of British Columbia championship schedule, the association has decided to reschedule two tournaments to later in the season. The Tournament of Champions, originally slated for May 31, will now be contested on Aug. 9 at Mayfair Lakes Golf and Country Club in Richmond. The Assistants’ and Seniors’ championships will be played July 19-20 at Kamloops Golf and Country Club instead of the previously scheduled dates of June 7-8. Each of the rescheduled events are making their return to the championship calendar in 2021 after being suspended last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Anyone registered for the rescheduled tournaments who is unable to participate on the new dates is welcome to withdraw and receive a full refund of registration fees. Withdrawals must be made in writing to PGA of B.C. administration no later than 10 days prior to the tournament’s start date. … Golf Canada and Cobra Puma Golf have announced a four-year extension of their partnership in junior golf and the Golf Canada Junior Skills Challenge through 2024. In this updated partnership, Puma Golf becomes the official headwear, apparel, and footwear partner of the Golf Canada Junior Skills Challenge … This week’s GNN Poll asks readers if they are more concerned now how government restrictions to battle the spread of COVID-19 will affect the golf
