Industry Notes: Stanley Thompson Society Heads West, RBC PGA Scramble, Muni Survey And More

Celebrating the first Stanley Thompson western regional event held on Monday at the Fairmont Banff Springs in Alberta were Ian Harris, David Orr, Dr. Jamie Harris, president of the Stanley Thompson Society, and Jeffrey Forgrave (above). Prior to tee off, Steve Young, director of golf at the Fairmont Banff Springs and golf historian spoke in regards to the history of the golf, with emphasis on its architect Stanley Thompson. Young is in the lower photo with Dr. Jamie Harris … Over 8,000 players have registered or already participated in local qualifiers for the RBC PGA Scramble. Based on the number of participants, either one or two teams qualify for one of 11 regional finals from each of over 160 sites. There is also a spot reserved at each regional final for an all-female team. The winners of each regional final qualify for the National Championship scheduled from October 3-5 at Cabot Links in Inverness, N.S. … Just a reminder that the City of Toronto is conducting a review of its golf course operations and an online survey to hear from stakeholders and the public about their experiences with Toronto’s five municipal golf courses. For more on the review, click here. Survey answers are being used in the city’s Parks, Forestry, and Recreation Division’s Golf Course Operations Sourcing Strategy that will be submitted to city council with recommendations on the future operations of the golf courses. The survey will close on July 12 at 11:45 p.m. To take the survey, click here … This week’s GNN Poll asks readers to describe the number of rounds put through in June at the golf operations where they work as opposed to the same month in 2020. At last glance, 44 per cent of respondents said the same, 26 per cent said better, 21 per cent said much better and another nine per cent said rounds were down.
