Industry Notes: What’s In The Bag, Certain/Uncertain Futures On Tour And More

July 19, 2021 By GNN

Mackenzie Hughes jumped 11 spots in the world golf rankings after his T6 finish at the Open Championship (File Photo)

Champion Golfer of the Year Collin Morikawa used a TaylorMade SIM 8.0 degree driver, SIM 14 degree and SIM2 19 degree fairway woods. In irons, he used a P770 four and P7MC five through nine. He also used a P730 pitching wedge, MG2 50 degrees, MG2 Hi-Toe 60 degrees, a TP Juno putter and TP5 2021 ball … Not only did Jon Rahm return to top spot in the world golf rankings after the Open Championship, but Corey Conners, with his tie for 15th, moved up from 38th to 36th, while Mackenzie Hughes, with his T6 finish, ascended 11 spots from 64th to 53rd. After his T11 at the Barbasol Championship, Taylor Pendrith moved from 208th to 201st in the world … Pendrith is tied for second in Korn Ferry Tour driving distance with an average of 321.8 yards … Pendrith and Adam Svensson are fifth and 10th, respectively in Korn Ferry Tour regular season points and have assured themselves of graduation to the PGA Tour season next year, but there are current Canadians on the PGA Tour whose immediate futures aren’t quite as clear. Michael Gligic (141), Roger Sloan (147) and David Hearn (161) are outside the top 125 in FedEx Cup standings and appear headed to the Korn Ferry Tour Finals at the end of the season to try to place in the top 25 in that series of three events to maintain regular status on tour next season. Nick Taylor is 144th in FedEx Cup standings, but will still be playing next year on the exemption he received from winning the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in 2020. Adam Hadwin is getting dangerously close to falling out of the top 125 as he went from 115th to 120th this week … This week’s GNN Poll asks readers if the golf operations where they work found it more difficult hiring seasonal staff this year due to a labour shortage or fewer people applying. At last glance, 72 per cent of respondents said yes, with 28 per cent voting no. If you haven’t done so, you can cast your vote on the GNN home page.
