The wind may have been up in Fort Worth, Tx., but Mackenzie Hughes came through the third round of the Charles Schwab Challenge bogey free on Saturday.
“I was just really, really patient. Conditions were tough and just the way it was, blustery and windy here, you’ve just got to take your chances when you can take them,” said Hughes, who finished the day with a five-under 65.
“Then there are holes where you really got to play defensively, and I did a good job of that, did a good job too of putting the ball in the fairway a fair bit, which, again, is crucial around here because the rough is so tricky and you get so many fliers,” he said.
At seven under, Hughes goes into the final round tied for second, two back of leader Kevin Na and Hughes says to expect more of the same.
“I’ll try and do the same things I did (Saturday). Good or bad result, I’ll just hopefully hang my hat on the fact that I’ve done the things I can do well, and see what happens,” he said.
