Canadian players occupy three spots in the top 20 and two in the top 10 after the first round of the John Deere Classic where Michael Gligic is solo second at he fired a bogey-free, seven-under 64 on Thursday in Silvis, Ill.
“it was nice, just kind of hit ball where I was looking, gave myself lots of looks. I think I only missed one green and was able to make a few putts,” said Gligic.
“I had a nice two-putt birdie on 17 coming in. Other than that, yeah, it was fairly stress-free. I just need to find a way to do that the next three days,” he said.
Gligic goes into Friday’s second round two shots behind American J.T. Poston, and one ahead of Vaughn Taylor and Christopher Gotterup.
As much as Gligic would love to duplicate Thursday’s 64, he realizes there are variables that may require adjustments to the game plan.
“Somebody told me it might rain tomorrow morning, so I don’t know what the weather is just yet. You know, every day is different. It’s a new challenge, just wake up tomorrow, see what it’s like and go from there,” said Gligic.
Adam Svensson is tied for ninth after he shot a 67 on Thursday, with David Hearn tied for 19th after he shot a 68.
