There was plenty of hand-wringing in the media last week about the RBC Canadian Open. being played for the first time since 2019, with the distraction of the LIV Tour playing its inaugural event across the ocean near London, but the LIV fireworks will continue this week at a major championship, with Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Sergio Garcia, Bryson DeChambeau, Patrick Reed and Martin Kaymer set to tee it up at the U.S, Open. So it will go for the rest of the golf season due to defections and, quite likely, legal action. The RBC Canadian Open may have been up against the first LIV event, but it won’t be the end of the controversy. Get used to it … Corey Conners, Mackenzie Hughes, Adam Hadwin, Ben Silverman, Roger Sloan and Nick Taylor are the Canadians in the U.S. Open field this week at the Country Club in Brookline, Mass. … The Wichita Open is being held this week on the Korn Ferry Tour, with Albin Choi and Stuart Macdonald in the field … PGA Tour Champions is off until the next week’s U.S. Senior Open Championship, the first of three consecutive major championships, including the Bridgestone Senior Players Championship and the Senior Open Championship, although they are not being played in consecutive weeks. Earlier this season, the Regions Tradition and Senior PGA Championship were back to back …The LPGA Tour is in Belmont, Mich., for the Meijer LPGA Classic, where Brooke Henderson and Maude-Aimee Leblanc will tee it up … Henderson is a two-time champion of the Meijer LPGA Classic, winning in 2017 and 2019 and finishing both at 21 under … The Epson Tour is in Ann Arbor, Mich., for the inaugural Ann Arbor Road to the LPGA. Maddie Szeryk, Selena Costabile, Alena Sharp and Rebecca Lee-Bentham are in the field … Last week’s GNN Poll asked readers how their rounds in May compare to the same month last year at the golf courses where they work. The majority, or 53 per cent of respondents said less than 2021, with 21 per cent saying much better and 17 per cent saying about the same. Another nine per cent said rounds were better … This week’s poll asks readers if the LIV Tour has their attention as a fan of golf, or do they just look at it as a curiosity due to recent headlines.
