
The LPGA Tour announced a 2023 schedule last week that will top the $100-million mark in overall prize money for the first time. The new schedule is here … One CEO of a major sponsor, however, is not pleased with the tour’s leadership. Beth Ann Nicols of Golfweek has more here … Players will be coming off a four-week European swing just before the CP Women’s Open two weeks later at Vancouver’s Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club, Aug. 24-27. Included in that European swing are two majors, the Amundi Evian Championship, where Brooke Henderson will be defending champion, and the AIG Women’s Open. It will also include the Scottish Open and ISPS Handa World Invitational in Northern Ireland … The two European majors will be played only two weeks apart, as will two other majors, the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, June 22-25 at Baltusrol in New Jersey, and the U.S. Women’s Open across the country at Pebble Beach, July 6-9. The two North American majors are back-to-back on the schedule … The Summit Golf Club in Richmond Hill, Ont., has announced that Mike Serio is its new head professional … Last week’s GNN Poll asked readers how the weather in early November affected the golf operations where they work. The majority, or 71 per cent of respondents said warm temperatures got them bonus days to put through more rounds, while 24 per cent said they had been closed since the month began, so weather didn’t matter. Another five per cent, said it was cold in November where they work so they put through fewer rounds than usual … This week’s poll asks if the golf industry will ever see the return of government mandates on masks and other precautions to avoid the spread of respiratory illnesses. As of this writing, 83 per cent of respondents said never say never, while 17 per cent said such government mandates are gone for good.
