
PING chairman and CEO John A. Solheim has been named the 2022 recipient of the PGA Distinguished Service Award for his work within the golf industry and his dedication to junior golf. The PGA Distinguished Service Award honours outstanding individuals who display leadership and humanitarian qualities, including integrity, sportsmanship and enthusiasm for the game of golf. Past winners include Jack and Barbara Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Lee Trevino, Patty Berg former U.S. presidents George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Gerald Ford, among others, Solheim will be honoured Nov. 2 at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort in Phoenix … Aaron Cockerill is six shots off the lead after opening the Portugal Masters on Thursday with a three-under 68 that left him tied for 45th after the first round. Cockerill entered the event in 112th place on the DP World Tour rankings and is aiming to finish in Portugal within the top 117 in order to keep his playing privileges.
