Corey Conners is tied for 13th at two under, five shots off the lead, going into the weekend at the Masters.
Connors, who tied for 10th last year at Augusta National, shot a three under 69 in Friday’s second round.
“It was a solid round, similar to yesterday, main difference being my score on 13. It went from a seven yesterday to a three today, so that was nice to get one back there. Overall, it was a solid day, hit a lot of really nice iron shots, drove the ball well, tried to keep as much stress off myself as possible,” said Conners.
“I’m just going to keep trying to do more of the same, keep hitting the ball in the ball in the fairways, give myself chances to hit on the green and, hopefully, Ican roll in some birdie putts,” he added.
Mackenzie Hughes shot his second consecutive 72 and is tied for 21st at even par at the midway point.
Hughes had birdies on the second and third holes, but put up five bogeys on the next eight holes before finishing with three birdies on the remaining holes, including 18.
“It was a nice start. It was a rough middle and it was a nice ending. My caddie and I, talked about how every tournament, you kind of go through a little patch where you’ve got to dig through it,” said Hughes.
“I knew I was still right in it, so I was trying to stay patient. I knew there were some par fives coming up. Fortunately, I was able to play the last seven holes at three under to finish off nicely,” he said.
Mike Weir missed the cut.
Justin Rose’s lead shrunk from four shots to one after he finished the second round with a 72.
