Maude-Aimee Leblanc had just one bogey as she finished with a three under 68 in Friday’s second round at the Palos Verdes Championship.

That left Leblanc tied for sixth at five under, four shots behind leader Hannah Green going into the weekend.

“I saved a lot of pars. My putting was really good. Just little hiccup on number eight. Other than that, it’s pretty solid,” said Leblanc.

Facing calmer conditions than in the previous round, Leblanc averaged 290 yards off the tee and hit 14 of 18 greens for the second consecutive day. With tricky pin positions and firm greens, she said it’s difficult to go pin hunting.

“Definitely more centre of the green. I don’t think we go at any pins unless it’s a wedge in. I hit the ball really high with a lot of spin, so I think that’s an advantage here because the greens are so firm, so I can kind of somewhat get some control over it,” said Leblanc, adding that her distance off the tee is an advantage.

“It’s helping a lot,” she said.

“The greens are tough to hit, so when you have a short iron in or a wedge, it’s a huge advantage,” said Leblanc, who was the lone Canadian to make the cut.

Korn Ferry Tour

Albin Choi finished the second round of the Korn Ferry Tour’s Huntsville Championship with a one over 71 that sends him into the weekend in a tie for eighth.

At the midway point in Huntsville, Ala., Choi is at five under, six shots off the lead.

PGA Tour Champions

Stephen Ames and defending champion Mike Weir each opened the Insperity Invitational near Houston with a one under 71 that left them tied for 23rd after the first round.

PGA Tour

Michael Gligic shot a one under 70 in Friday’s second round of the Mexico Open, where he’s tied for 25th.
