Aaron Cockerill opened the Barracuda Championship with a double bogey, but the day got much better as it progressed in Truckee, Calif., on Thursday.
Cockerill finished with 12 points in the Modified Stableford system employed by the Barracuda Championship, leaving him tied for third, just one shot off the lead.
“It was funny to scoop it on the first hole of the day, but after that, I bounced back with two birdies in a row and played solid. I holed a lot of good putts and made a bomb on the second hole for eagle, which is obviously huge in this format.,” said Cockerill, who usually plays on the DP World Tour.
“The last two weeks has been nice. I played in Canada earlier in the year in the Canadian Open, so this is my third tour event this year and I hadn’t played in any before that. It is nice to play back on this side of the pond. It’s fun,” he said.
One point behind Cockerill in a tie for sixth is Michael Gligic.
