New Stan Smith Golf Shoe From adidas Celebrates The Return Of The ZOZO Championship To Japan

October 14, 2021 By GNN

“Be unique. Be equal,” is the inspiration for an exclusive, limited-edition colourway from Stan Smith Golf as adidas celebrates the return of next week’s ZOZO Championship following a one-year absence in which the tournament was played in the United States in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The quote comes from ZOZO’s company philosophy and is inscribed on the heel of the limited-edition footwear.

“Be unique. Be equal,” reflects ZOZO’s hope that we can all help create a world where both uniqueness and equality are valued. The all-black upper (the result when all colours are mixed) and eye-catching multi-coloured outsole (representative of the uniqueness of all individuals) are deliberate

“We are honoured to celebrate the return of the ZOZO Championship to Japan with this truly special collaboration with the tournament host,” said Masun Denison, global director of footwear for adidas Golf.

“In the process of our collaboration with ZOZO, their company philosophy of `Be unique. Be equal.’ really spoke to our team and resonated with us as brand. We wanted to somehow capture this bold declaration within a special design, so we’re extremely proud with how the finished product came together, especially since it’s on one of our most iconic silhouettes,” said Denison.

The Stan Smith is a classic silhouette first brought to golf earlier this year. This will be the fourth model introduced and it features an upper made in part with recycled materials, all the brand mission to help end plastic waste.

“It is our great honor to be a part of this Stan Smith Golf project,” said Meg Hatakeyama, vice president of marketing for ZOZO Inc., and tournament director for the ZOZO Championship.

“To celebrate the tournament’s return to Japan, we feel this collaboration is a perfect fit. ZOZO hopes to make the world a better place through the power of fashion and this partnership embodies our slogan to the fullest. We’re excited to give our fans the opportunity to wear this special edition shoe at this year’s ZOZO Championship,“ said Hatakeyama.

Stan Smith Golf features an adiwear rubber spikeless outsole with traction inspired by the shoe’s original sole design. Also included is a die-cut PU sockliner and additional PU cushioning in the midsole to provide golf-specific support in every step.

This version is also waterproof (one-year warranty) to help keep feet dry. This limited-edition will also come with a commemorative shoe bag inspired by the shoe’s design.

This simple and yet unique version of our Stan Smith Golf will be available in limited quantities here, the adidas app, and at select retail partners worldwide on Friday, with availability in Japan beginning Monday.
